In any community trust is an important aspect that determines the relationships among its members and identity is a key part in building trust. Its natural before you trust somebody you need to know something about the person you are dealing with and hence the identity of the person.
Knowing who to trust in a “Virtual Environment” presents unique challenges. Traditionally virtual community members have based their trust on relationships built over time, and often on some basic verification such as Contact Information.
As the community grows, safety concerns increase and it’s clear we need to enhance identification. Hence, Tune Travel introduced two categories of membership i.e. Ordinary Membership and Verified Membership that aims to deliver confidence and security. It gives all members the chance to independently verify certain aspects of their potential travel partner’s identity (their name, age, location and sex for instance) if they choose to. This will help establish trust by removing a layer of anonymity for those they interact with. It’s much easier to trust someone who puts their name behind their words and actions.
We want to reiterate that the choice of becoming a Verified Member is voluntary for all members. Members who do not want to verify their identity may continue to remain unverified and will continue to have access to all Travel Listings. We’ll only flag those members who choose to verify themselves as “Verified Members”.
FAQs
What is the difference between Ordinary Member and Verified Member?
An Ordinary Member is one who has not provided any documentation that can be used to verify his or her identity.
Whereas, a Verified Member is one who has provided documentation to enable verification of aspects of who they are in real life, such as age, sex and location.
Why do we encourage Verified Membership?
Verified Membership provides an additional layer of trust for Carpooling/ travel sharing arrangements.
Security has always been our priority. The growing popularity of Carpooling gives rise to the need to add measures of security so that Carpooling remains a safe environment for all users. We also want to make sure that members have the tools they need to interact with the community in a way that works for them. This is a more effective way of identification use to evaluate whether users can trust another individual. How do I become a Verified Member?
